The Baby/Bridal Shower Syndrome By Priscilla Dikko

So recently I was surfing the net and came across a celebrity baby shower, and my thought were like WOW! This can’t be a baby shower.

I guess the writer didn't use the appropriate title but guess what, I was wrong and i realized that the writer sure was giving us the most elaborate baby shower. I have seen pictures of baby showers of celebrities abroad, the likes of reality star Kim Kardashian and singer Ciara, and you wonder what is wrong with our celebrity who aren't half as wealthy as their counterpart in America?

I have always felt baby/bridal shower were kind of intimate and simple, but I have been proved wrong recently. I trust my Nigeria people to always go overboard.  Ok let me give u a picture of what I saw. A very big hall, with amazing decoration by 2 event company I think and with so many invited guest and it got me wondering this could actually be the picture of what we can call a dream wedding scenario.
Another amazing thing was that there were so many guys at the baby shower and guest were dressed to the teeth. I saw pictures of invited guest posed for the cameras. Then again it got me thinking of the unnecessary pressure that people tag to the name ‘’celebrity’’ and people will go to any length to become one. Even though people are oblivious to the fact that some celebrity will fake a rich life style to remain relevant.

So here is a story that happened recently I was invited to a bridal shower late last year, I was excited for the celebrant and I went shopping for the shower, only to get there and the bride was nowhere to be found, and to think I had to make the long journey to the venue was painful enough. That’s how I and the other ladies waited like forever and when it was getting late we had to leave. She called to apologize and that the wedding isn't holding again .

Life went on as usual only for her to come again about 2 weeks ago to invite me for her baby showers OOPS!  I didn't even know she is pregnant, well I turned down the invite, I was actually busy on the said date but if I wasn't I sure hell wouldn't go, abi there is an adage that says once bitten twice shy.

From what I sensed from her BBM picture message other people also turned down the invite as she kept talking about how friends are bad, and only pretend to love you and blablabla. And the date passed and I never saw even one picture. I guess no one trusted her anymore and cant waste their time again for her sake.

So I ask again why the pressure? Beautiful things of life are good but don’t put yourself over unnecessary pressure, you don’t have to please society and displease yourself and remain sad. And to our elaborate celebrities you don’t have to paint of picture that life is a bed of roses.
