NYSC is here again!! Due to the recently concluded election the
National Youth Service Corp, NYSC camping slated to hold in February was postponed to May and May is finally
here. A lot of graduates can’t wait to be part of the much heard about NYSC
camping. You could see the happiness in
the faces of the deployed graduates. And what comes to my mind is another
thousands to join the labour market. Well! That’s a story for another day.
So today am really bother about the extreme people go to
rather serve in places like Lagos and Abuja, Lagos tops the list of the people favorite and I wonder why? Because if it is for the reason of landing your dream job, it’s only an assumption and not a fact, there are no dream jobs
anywhere in Nigeria.
Back to the matter.
Am amazed at what people will do just to
remain in Lagos for their NYSC which is alarming, some days back I was having a
conversation with a young girl who went as far as getting a medical report for
a blood disease. I was shocked to say
the least and I asked her if that is not
too extreme and she said it has to be for it to be convincing and was
smiling as if she had just won a lottery because she is so convinced that it
will work because it worked for her friends.
So I asked myself, apart from the insecurity in the north which
is understandable and which NYSC have even given people options to reject such
places, why won’t anybody be excited to explore Nigeria and at a very young age
at that?
People should learn to look at the positive side of things, do you
know that traveling can boost your chance of getting a job?
Do you know that
speaking other languages aside the English language can also boost your Resume?
I know people who have become rich just by exploring the numerous business
opportunity in those places we call remote by bringing things for sale that are
not available in those areas. I know a young lady during my services years who
would import and export things from her home town to her place of service and
today she still very much into the business and it amazing how she has grown
into a very successful business woman.
I served in Yola, Adamawa state and I won’t trade that
experience for anything, u don’t buy such experience with money. I was born in
Lagos and grew up in Lagos. I tell people that travelling is a form of
education and am proud of my wealth of travel across Nigeria, the things I have
learnt about other cultures broadens my mind. It’s not about what you have
heard or read but what you have experienced first-hand. I have a personal
journal of my travel experience, this I can pass on my kids to make them
understand that they need to experience these first hand too.
If you have no medical condition there is no reason why you shouldn't be excited to see the beauty of our diverse culture yet united in one
Nation.
