EFCC Closed In On Ten Former Governors For Looting

To prove to people who have criticized that they are not doing enough to tackle corruption, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has closed in on Ten former governors who are standing trial for looting States fund while they were in office.


The suspects are, Lucky Igbinedion former governor (Edo State), Chimaroke Nnamani (Enugu State), Orji Uzor Kalu (Abia State), Saminu Turaki (Jigawa State), Joshua Dariye (Plateau State who was elected for fourth term in 2003 and impeached in 2006), Abubakar Audu (Kogi State) , Danjuma Goje (Gombe State), Akwe Doma (Nasarawa State) and Jolly Nyame (Taraba State).

The commission said that the case of corrupt enrichment against Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State has been temporarily put on hold following his election as the governor of the state inline with immunity clause in the constitution of Nigeria.

Apart from seizing the assets of the suspects, the commission said they have also frozen the accounts of companies linked to the former governors.

They said the former governor of Borno State Ali Modu Sheriff might be declared wanted if he fails to honor the invitation to answer some questions bordering on a petition against him.
So far, the sum of N65b have been recovered from the suspects.
